Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson could be on the move after being coveted by the New Jersey Devils for the several past weeks. According to James Nichols of NJHN, a source claims that general manager Tom Fitzgerald has re-engaged talks when it comes to a Gibson trade as the Ducks are travelling East to play against the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and the Devils this week.

The Devils are however not the only team with an interest for the veteran goalie. The Detroit Red Wings are also believed to be in the mix as their goaltending carousel has become a travelling circus!

Detroit is in need of a bona fide number-one goaltender, and Gibson fits the description. The Red Wings could also have an advantage over the Devils seeing that Ducks general manager is former Red Wings/Lightning assistant GM Pat Verbeek. Anaheim is in the midst of a rebuild over the past few seasons and could ask for significant prospects in a trade with Detroit.

It was recently reported that young forward Jonatan Berggren could be on the block and would certainly entice the Ducks to pull the trigger.

However, the Devils might also have a good offer to present to the Ducks for Gibson, though his contract could come up as an issue. At 30 years old, Gibson is in the fifth year of an eight-year, $51.2 million deal, and his ten-team no-trade list will give him power in where he ends up if dealt. Would he want a trade to New Jersey?

So far this season, Gibson has a 5-12-0 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

He would be a significant upgrade for the Devils, or the Wings, though at the moment, it sounds like the former are the ones making the calls to see what it could take to pry the netminder out of Anaheim.

Stay tuned…
