This could set the ground for a monster trade.

The Colorado Avalanches won't make the playoff. What a bold prediction, isn't it?
With 16 points short of a wild card spot, the Avs are already thinking about next year and to be fair, they should be thinking a few years ahead . They've got a solid core of offensive forward under 23 but their future on the defensive end isn't one to envy. Colorado's rearguard has been plaguing them this season and the Avs had it coming. The last time they drafted a defenceman with a first round selection was in 2011; Duncan Siemens who's struggling in the AHL.
Joe Sakic made a statement:
“Well, I don’t plan on moving a guy like MacKinnon, (Tyson) Jost, (Mikko) Rantanen, especially with their age,” Sakic said. “We have a lot of good pieces here. Will I be listening to different ideas on how to improve us and maybe get us younger and get more depth here? Yeah, we’re going to do that.”
That being said, that leaves Gabriel Landeskog, Matt Duchene (we knew both could be dealt) and Tyson Barrie (that comes as a surprise) among players on the trading block.
