Jesse Puljujarvi's time in Edmonton is running out.

The big Finn may be done in Edmonton.

The saga of Jesse Puljujarvi in Edmonton has been a frustrating one for fans who have been waiting for the big Finnish forward to deliver on the promise that saw the Oilers draft him 4th overall at the 2016 National Hockey League Entry Draft, but it may be a saga that is finally reaching its conclusion.

Puljujarvi recently made comments to the Finnish media that made his lack of confidence crystal clear, and perhaps also his lack of comfort in the NHL or more specifically with the Oilers.

“Of course I’d like to be a productive top-line player,” said Puljujärvi in Finnish, translated by Seppälä. “But right now, it looks like I can't do that in NHL. Maybe some other league.”

Puljujarvi has often been the subject of trade speculation but his recent comments appear to have made the likelihood of a trade from the Oilers much more likely. Over the weekend NHL insider Elliotte Friedman made comments that clearly indicated he believes a trade involving Puljujarvi will come at some point, and even indicated that the Oilers and Puljujarvi's representatives may have held conversations about this very topic already.

"From what we understand there was a conversation at the beginning of the season between the team and Puljujarvi's representatives where it was decided if things didn't go well the Oilers would try to move him."

It sounds like the injuries the Oilers are currently dealing with on their roster may be playing a factor in why Puljujarvi has yet to be traded.

"I do think that's going to happen, what I can't tell you is what the timeline is going to be," admitted Friedman. "Edmonton is still banged up at forward."

In spite of the fact that Friedman indicated this deal may take some time, he believes both player and team are actively seeking a way to put an end to this relationship.

"I do think the Oilers and the player are going to try and find a solution," concluded the insider.
