Veteran NHL goalie Jaroslav Halak is reportedly set to sign a contract with the Colorado Avalanche.
Avalanche backup Pavel Francouz is currently injured and there are reports that he may be out long-term while he rehabilitates an offseason hip injury. NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported last week that the Avs were looking for a veteran backup option to play behind starter Alexandar Georgiev and Halak appears to fit the bill.
Avs insider Adrian Dater also reported that the Avs had been eyeing Halak as an option, while Czech based reporter Tomas Prokop confirmed the news. Expect an official announcement from the Avs on Halak's signing in the next few days.
The 38 year old Halak played 25 games for the New York Rangers last season and looked solid. He put up a 2.72 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
