While a lot took place in Montreal on the first day of the NHL Draft on Thursday, Isaac Howard still managed to stand out. He was the American player taken No. 31 overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning, and while his selection stunned a few pundits, it was his outfit and comments that gathered the most attention.
Howard wore a turtleneck, chain and an American flag belt buckle with a white suit! He kinda looked like a cocaine dealer from Miami Beach in the mid 80’s! When asked about his fashion sense by Caroline Cameron of Sportsnet, he explained his nickname Ice Man and added:
“I think I’m the best-looking guy here, so I decided to be the best-dressed, too. There’s not a whole lot of that in hockey sometimes, so there’s no reason to try to change the culture a little bit and get some more fashion in.”
Fans were quick to react to his comments during the night, but the best reaction comes from NHL Legend Jaromir Jagr, who commented on the NHL’s post on Instagram by saying:
“Hockey has changed. The kid is lucky it’s not 1990, big guys would change his face.”
This is hilarious from Jagr, who is still playing at age 50 for Kladno, the team he owns in the Czech Republic. He put up eight goals and 19 points in 43 games this season. He last appeared in the NHL with the Calgary Flames in 2017-18. In 1,733 career games, Jagr was third in NHL history with 766 goals before Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin beat his record this past season.
Would it be something if some enforces apply what Jagr said when it comes to Howard in the coming seasons?
