Jakub Dobes reacts to his first game at the Bell Centre.
The Montreal Canadiens rookie goaltender was blown away by the passion of the hometown crowd.
I can't even begin to fathom the rollercoaster of emotions that goaltender Jakub Dobes experienced on Sunday night as the young Canadiens rookie played his very first game ever in front of the hometown crowd in Montreal.
Not only was Dobes playing in front of some of the most passionate fans in the sport for the very first time in his National Hockey League career but he would do so during a game that some are already describing as the game of the year despite it only being the month of January.
Dobes and the Habs would battle back from a deficit 4 different times during the course of the game, forcing a 4-4 tie in the third period and the extra overtime frame in the process, before eventually winning it in overtime after 2 terrific saves from Dobes in that overtime period.
Dobes admitted that the moment was a pretty overwhelming one for him.
"I might play on the road because these guys are nuts," said Dobes with a giant smile on his face. "The best crowd I ever had. I said it before it gives me goosebumps and it does give me goosebumps, I didn't want to look around because I knew. I'm really happy to be a part of this and as I've said this is the best place to play and it's a privilege to play here every night."
Dobes did acknowledge that his two monster saves in overtime helped lead the team to victory, but after his teammates clawed their way back into the game time and time again after he gave up goals in this one Dobes wasn't taking any of the credit.
"Yeah I made two good saves in OT but you guys gotta give it to the guys," said Dobes. "I can take some credit but these guys played unbelievable. It's not all me it's the guys... everyone has eyes it wasn't the best game but the guys battled back and I'm really proud of the team."
Dobes is quickly winning over the hearts of fans in Montreal with a perfect 5-0-0 start to his career and comments like this are only going to make his popularity in the city skyrocket.
