The Toronto Maple Leafs will be making their only visit to Rogers Place in Edmonton this season for tonight's game against the host Oilers, where Connor McDavid and company will be looking to rebound from their recent loss to the Boston Bruins.
And as you can imagine, it will be former Leafs goaltender Jack Campbell between the pipes tonight for the Oilers. And he's certainly looking forward to facing his old friends.
"A lot of buddies over there," Campbell said. "A lot of great memories. A special organization. I’m honoured to be part of that organization in my career. They’re playing great so it’s always fun to play the best teams. I can’t wait to battle some buddies."
It was Campbell who made the decision to move on from the Leafs after two and a half seasons, being lured away to the Oilers with a hefty five year, $25 million deal. And while he's struggled for the most part in his first year with the Oilers, they remain confident he can regain the form that put him in the Vezina Trophy discussion during last season's first half.
Meanwhile, superstar forward Leon Draisaitl appreciates the magnitude of tonight's game against the visiting Leafs, who are sure to have plenty of fans in attendance.
'It’s always exciting when Toronto comes to town," Draisaitl said. "Two highly-skilled teams going at it and it always seems to be a little more amped up than any other game maybe. There’s a lot of Toronto fans here, it seems like, so should be a good game."
Tonight's game will officially begin just after 8:00 PM EST.
