J.T. Miller's wife describes 2-year-old son's gruesome injury.
J.T. Miller's wife Natalie describes a gruesome injury to the couple's son and the hilarious story it created.
They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and it would appear that very well may be the case when it comes to the Miller family.
New York Rangers star forward J.T. Miller has earned a reputation as an abrasive player both on the ice and in the locker room, even by the standards of the National Hockey League, and it would seem that the traits that have earned Miller a tough reputation in the world of hockey are traits that he has now passed down to his son.
Miller's wife, Natalie Miller, recently discussed a rather horrible situation that the Miller family had to go through, one that involved a rather gruesome injury to Miller's young son, but it was a situation that also had a rather hilarious and unexpected twist.
When Miller's son was just 2 years old he would lose his pinky finger in a terrible accident, one that Natalie describes in terrifying detail.
"I heard this bloodcurdling scream and its my littlest, my 2 year-old boy, got his pinky shut in our mudroom door, the hinge part, just severed her right off," said Natalie.
Bizarrely though Natalie had a wide smile on her face as she described some of the harrowing details of the ordeal she would go through on that day, while that might seem strange at first the reason behind her smile would be revealed very quickly.
"We're on our way walking him to the operating room and my son is chanting 'Pinky Miller' all the way down, all the nurses are dying, they all know that it's J.T.'s son and he wouldn't stop," said Natalie smiling from ear to ear at this point. "After the surgery he was [looking at his hand] and going 'I'm Pinky Miller!"
It is pretty incredible to think that a 2-year-old was dealing with having his finger effectively chopped off so well, but if losing a digit had phased the little guy he certainly didn't show it in front of any of the nurses at the hospital. While J.T. Miller passing down some of his toughness to his child no doubt played a role in how it all played out, there was a good reason her son had spontaneously come up with such a hilarious chant at the hospital.
"Just a little backstory so it makes sense, if you're from Vancouver or if you've been to Rogers Arena... you would have heard the J.T. Miller chants which were insane," said Natalie. "So our kids started to catch onto to it... the kids would do it at school it was so embarrassing."
Well it would seem that after catching on to the chant fans in Vancouver had created for his dad, little Pinky Miller decided to create one of his own for himself. After such a display of toughness, especially given the severity of the injury, it is safe to say that young Pinky Miller has more than earned his nickname.
