J.T. Miller rejected massive trade offer before he was moved to New York!
Insider reveals how Miller could have ended up at the center of another monster trade, but turned it down. Full details below:
Players in the Colorado Avalanche’s dressing room expected to acquire J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks after trading Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes last month.
That’s what TVA Sports reporter Renaud Lavoie claimed on BPM Sports on Tuesday.
Lavoie revealed how Miller simply said no to the Avalanche as he was set on returning out East and was traded from the Canucks to the New York Rangers.
“In their minds, they made the trade because J.T. Miller was coming to Colorado,” Lavoie said during his segment on BPM Radio (translated from French).
“They were convinced that J.T. Miller would be traded from the Canucks to the Avalanche, and from what I’m told, J.T. raised his hand and said, ‘I’m not playing in Denver.’”
The Avalanche was therefore left somewhat empty-handed, as they had viewed Miller as a long-term solution to center their second line.
Part of the Rantanen was Martin Nečas, who came to Colorado, and is enjoying his new team, though at this time, he still does not have a long-term contract in Denver.
Ahead of the March 7 deadline, Colorado remains on the hunt for a way to replace Rantanen’s offensive production in the long run.
It remains to be seen whether the team can address this need before March 7or if they will have to wait until the offseason to fill that void.
