Insider slams Ottawa Senators over Jakob Chychrun trade.
NHL insider pulls no punches in sharing his disbelief over Ottawa's bungling of the Jacob Chychrun trade.
The Washington Capitals have pulled off one of the better moves of the offseason thus far according to one National Hockey League insider and unfortunately it has come at the expense of the Ottawa Senators.
On a recent episode of the DFO Rundown, NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed his true feelings on the deal that sent former Senators defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Capitals, feelings that do not reflect well on the new management structure in Ottawa.
Seravalli began by expressing his sheer disbelief that the deal had transpired in the manner that it did.
"I thought that Jakob Chychrun trade was the move of the offseason," revealed Seravalli. "Someone is gonna need to explain that to me from an Ottawa perspective. I don't understand it at all and I've had a week to think about it and I still can't wrap my brain around it."
Seravalli was aghast at the return the Senators received for Chychrun, especially in light of what the organization gave up to acquire him from the Arizona Coyotes.
"A couple of years ago a first and two seconds, Nick Jensen?" said Seravalli. "I understand you're trading left shot for right shot and you're always gonna be at a disadvantage, but that's the best deal you could make for Jakob Chychrun? There's no way that's the best deal they could possibly make."
Seravalli was not a fan of Ottawa's offseason in general, but it would seem the Chychrun trade stands out as a particularly bad piece of business in his mind.
"I don't understand it I'm sorry, it doesn't make any sense to me," said Seravalli in conclusion.
The Senators also received a third round pick at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft as a part of this trade.
