Insider reveals why Joffrey Lupul failed his medical exam with the NHL.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were forced to deal with some unexpected drama and perhaps more than a little stress after forward Joffrey Lupul made some rather inflammatory comments about their medical procedures, but now that's all settled. 

On Tuesday it was revealed that the National Hockey League had conducted it's own independent medical evaluation of Lupul and their findings had coincided with those of the Toronto Maple Leafs, allowing the Leafs to put Lupul on long-term injured reserve as they had originally intended to do. 

Now however we know exactly why Lupul failed his medical exam and, as many rumors had suggested earlier this week, it's once again related to the ongoing back issues the Leafs forward has dealt with for several seasons now. TSN insider Frank Seravalli confirmed those rumors on Tuesday and added that Lupul has never been the same since having back surgery back when he was a member of the Anaheim Ducks organization. 

Making matters worse for Lupul is major back issues tend to get worse, not better, over time. Many are starting to wonder if he will ever be healthy enough to hit the NHL playing surface again.
