The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly close to a new deal with pending unrestricted free agent forward William Nylander.

On Saturday night, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman reported that the two sides were closing in on a deal that he believes will come in somewhere at around $11.5 million per season on a max term deal of 8 years.

"It's getting close," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "The Maple Leafs fly home from San Jose on Sunday and we could see this as soon as soon as Monday. I do believe the AAV for Nylander is going to be around $11.5 million a year."

That is a hefty number to be sure but Friedman believes that the Maple Leafs were intent on keeping Nylander, who has very clearly played himself into a big ticket contract this summer with a season that is well on pace to eclipse the 100 point plateau.

"I think quite simply it came down to one fact," said Friedman. "The Toronto Maple Leafs wanted to keep the player, they think he's a good player and a big part of their future and this was the price that it took to get him for 8 years and that is what they are going to do."

Friedman once again reiterated that he believes the deal could be announced very soon.

"I think we could soon it as soon as Monday, around $11.5 million a year," said Friedman in conclusion.
