You don't often see the likes of a pair of bitter division rivals teaming up for a trade, but in the weeks leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline next month, could we see a rare deal between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames?

As you know, Flames defenseman Chris Tanev has seen his name pop up in trade rumors multiple times in the last several months, especially after the trade of Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks along with the exodus of Tyler Toffoli. Additionally, Noah Hanifin is a prime trade chip as well.

Could Tanev find himself remaining in Alberta but simply moving north? According to NHL Insider Darren Dreger while making an appearance on Toronto's 1050 Overdrive along with Bryan Hayes, Jeff O'Neill and Jamie McLennan, he hinted that a potential deal between the two provincial rivals was a possibility.

"There's a team that I hadn't heard about, that I heard about today," he said, referring to the Oilers as a team that could pony up to acquire Tanev from the Flames.

"I think the Oilers would love to have Chris Tanev," he continued, while adding that "it would probably come at the expense of Cody Ceci, if you are trying to extend him."

Tanev has scored a goal to go with eight assists for the Flames this season, who find themselves teetering on the brink of a Wild Card playoff spot. Meanwhile, Ceci has 13 assists in 46 games for the Oilers, who recently saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights earlier this week in Sin City.

The NHL Trade Deadline will fall on the afternoon of March 8. Will we see a deal between these two rivals?
