Even when chatter first emerged on a potential Pierre-Luc Dubois trade, it felt like it wouldn’t be a matter of seasons before we saw the Jets’ forward out of Winnipeg. And now, a move may be coming sooner than expected.

On Wednesday on Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun revealed how Dubois’ agent Pat Brisson had informed the Jets about his client’s attentions as the forward is reportedly not even inclined to sign an extension, not even a one-year bridge deal this offseason.

“Our understanding is that Pat Brisson has informed the Winnipeg Jets that his client isn’t inclined to sign an extension this summer, not even a one-year bridge. Pat Brisson would like to work with the Winnipeg Jets on a trade for Dubois to another team. So there’s where that’s at for now. The Jets obviously can still decide to keep him another year and try to bring him to arbitration or try to trade him at the trade deadline, but the bottom line is: this looks like it’s heading for a trade potentially this summer.”

For months now, many insiders and pundits see the possibility of Dubois getting moved to the Montreal Canadiens, especially since he is scheduled to become a restricted free agent for the last time in his career in July. There is also the constant reminder that Dubois would love to play for his hometown team and has links to Montreal that could see him get the perfect fit with the Canadiens.

While the Canadiens might still have the edge in terms of location and the ideal fit personally for Dubois, there were reports that the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins had also expressed interest for Dubois. It makes sense seeing that the Bruins Bruins potentially face the next season without veterans Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, while the Avalanche could look for someone to take on Gabriel Landeskog’s role as he is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 campaign following knee surgery.

With Brisson’s statement to the Jets, per LeBrun, we get more teams into the mix for Dubois.
