The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a rough start on Saturday night and it is starting goaltender Ilya Samsonov who has paid the price.

Samsonov has been pulled in the very first period of tonight's game between the Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning after allowing 3 goals on just 4 shots from the Lightning after a little over 12 minutes of play. The decision was reached very quickly by head coach Sheldon Keefe after the third goal, with Keefe quickly signalling to backup goaltender Joseph Woll that he was taking over the goaltending duties for the remainder of the evening.

It was, unsurprisingly, Nikita Kucherov who opened up the scoring for the Lightning with a power play goal.

Alex Barre-Boulet scored the second of the night for the Lightning with Kucherov involved once again with an assist on the play.

The goal that finally chased Samsonov from the net was also scored by Kucherov who burned the Leafs for the second time in the firstr period.
