There appears to finally be some good news when it comes to the Arizona Coyotes’ ongoing search for a new home. John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports has reported that owner Alex Meruelo is interested in purchasing land for a new arena in Mesa. Meruelo has allegedly submitted a letter of intent to buy 41 acres.

According to the report, the Coyotes are still looking at other sites, including Phoenix and Scottsdale, and that the target date for a new arena is the start of the 2026-27 season.

Earlier this offseason, the Coyotes lost a vote in spring to build a new facility in Tempe and have since been forced to look for a new option for an NHL-sized arena. This is another chapter to the saga as the Coyotes have been playing in three different venues since moving to Arizona.

For now, the team found a temporary solution, working out a deal to share Arizona State’s Mullett Arena. The Mullett has a capacity of 5,000 and is by far the smallest home arena in the NHL.

But commissioner Gary Bettman is doing all he can to keep the Coyotes in Arizona and is probably thrilled to hear this news report on Wednesday about some positive developments in the saga.
