Horrific tragedy strikes former NHLer Ryan White.

I have some awful news to share with you today.

A GoFundMe has been set up in support of former National Hockey League forward Ryan White, who formerly played from the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes and Minnesota Wild, but it is not White himself who has taken ill. Instead the GoFundMe set up by Philippa Wintoneak is in support of his 3 year old son Gordie Joseph Ryan White who has just been diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) a highly aggressive brain tumor that is difficult to treat.

Since this is such a difficult situation to discuss and for the sake of preserving the White Family's message, here it is unedited and in full from their GoFundMe page:

It is with incredibly sad hearts that we announce that on Friday, February 18, 2022, Ryan and Sarah White received the life-altering news that their first born, Gordie Joseph Ryan White, has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, DIPG.

DIPG is an aggressive form of brain cancer, most commonly found in children ages 7-10. It has a 0% survival rate.

Gordie is not only the light of his parents’, sister Molly’s, and family’s lives, but he leaves a significant impact on everyone he meets. He is a happy, loving, comedic, witty and charming little boy.

He has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on his world in the three and a half short years he’s been with us, and will continue to for his remaining months and forever after. Sarah, Ryan and their families are dedicated to making every day count and will ensure that Gordie continues to live an extremely happy and full life while he can.

In order to help Gordie gain a little more time with all of us, he is getting ready to start 6 weeks of radiation treatment. We have set up this Go Fund Me to support Sarah and Ryan, and to hopefully relieve a tiny amount of the stress that they are under.

As awful as this news is I am happy to report that the hockey community has once again shown its true colors with a tremendous outpouring of support for the White family, with several high profile current and former NHL stars making generous contributions to the fund.

Just a few examples of the overwhelming support are:

Benoit Pouliot has donated $5,000.

Jared and Danielle Spurgeon have donated $2,750.

Marco Scandella has donated $1,000.

Katrina and Brett Connolly have donated $,1000.

Shayne and Gina Gostisbehere have donated $1,000.

Jacob Markstrom has donated $1,000.

Kelsey and Brayden Schenn have donated $1,000.

At the time of this writing the goal of raising $60,000 has been shattered with donations piling in and currently the GoFundMe has reached an incredible $109,241 in spite of the fact that it was only created just one day ago.

That being said, although the money is no doubt very much appreciated, I suspect that the last thing on the minds of these parents are their finances at this time. All their thoughts are likely on their beautiful baby boy and I would implore all of you to keep Gordie Joseph Ryan White and the White family in your thoughts during this impossibly difficult time in their lives.
