On Wednesday evening, the St. Louis Blues announcing they were trading Pierre-Olivier Joseph to the Penguins in exchange for future considerations. This is a return to Pittsburgh for PO Joseph, who spent the previous two seasons with Sidney Crosby’s gang.

The news broke as Pierre-Olivier Joseph was having dinner with his older brother Mathieu. The Joseph brothers were on the same roster in St. Louis for the first time of their career and the older one shared a heartbreaking post on his Instagram account.

Mathieu Joseph, who unlike his brother is a forward, posted a picture of Pierre-Olivier frowning in front of a dinner plate in a restaurant, adding the captions last meal and gonna miss you.

Just days prior to the trade, the Joseph brothers had fun with an “awkward family photoshoot,” in a promotion for the Winter Classic between the Blues and Chicago Blackhawks.

Donning their Winter Classic jerseys, the brothers posed in different funny positions and couldn’t stop laughing.

This is a return in Pittsburgh for Joseph, who is a former first-round pick in the 2017 draft. He played for the Penguins in 2022-23 and last season, before the team did not tender him an offer. He became a free agent and signed a one-year deal with the Blues, joining his older brother Mathieu, who traded there by the Ottawa Senators to the team in July.

He is therefore signed through the end of the 2024-25 season and his contract carries an average annual value of $950,000. He is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer.

He has played in 23 games for St. Louis this season, tallying two assists. In 170 career NHL games, the defenseman has recorded eight goals, 31 assists and 39 points.

It's an exciting move for PO, however, a sad one for the brothers and the family...
