Habs lose their top defenseman just one game into the season

This just in, the Montreal Canadiens have announced that defenseman Mike Matheson will be out of the team's lineup for eight weeks with an abdominal strain.

The 28 year old blueliner was acquired by the Canadiens this past offseason in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins and, for better or worse, is the Habs' #1 defenseman this season. To be perfectly frank, the Habs can't afford to lose a guy like Matheson even if he's not exactly Bobby Orr. More to come.
