Gut-wrenching video of Oilers’ dressing room after SCF Game 7 loss surfaces and just tears you apart
This is tough to watch.
The video of the poor Edmonton Oilers swallowing the loss of the Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Panthers in Florida has surfaced and it is tough to watch. Several media have shared the gut-wrenching video in which we cannot only see the Oilers’ players crying and dealing with the grief of defeat in the dressing room, but in which you can also hear NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced their captain Connor McDavid has the playoffs’ Conn Smythe winner, awarded to to the most valuable player (MVP) of his team during the postseason.
As you know, McDavid did not come out onto the ice to accept the Conn Smythe trophy, and the video allows you to see that he was almost lost in the pain of losing, just one goal away from the biggest prize ever.
Watching this just tears you apart for the Oilers, who let’s all remember, struggled at the start of the 2023-24 season, made a head coaching change and dealt with serious injuries.
The video is here below, via Hockey Collective:
In other parts of that long hard to watch footage, forward Zach Hyman speaks, validating his teammates’ heartbreak, but also telling them that they will be back and will win the Stanley Cup shortly. He believes in this group and tells them he wants them to stick around so they can have another go, and next time, with a different result, with them celebrating on the ice and hosting the prestigious trophy.
"Nothing we say is gonna make us feel better," he said. "This is the worst feeling in the world. I hope everyone comes back because this team is f----ing special."
Unfortunately for Hyman, several moves were made this offseason by Jeff Jackson before he handed the reins to new general manager Stan Bowman. The Oilers added forwards Viktor Arvidsson, who signed a one-year, $4 million deal after three seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, and Jeff Skinner, who signed a one-year, $3 million deal after being bought ought by the Buffalo Sabres.
Edmonton made sure to keep of its own players, as Hyman wished, re-signing Adam Henrique, Mattias Janmark, Corey Perry, Connor Brown and Troy Stetcher. Another great move pulled by the Oilers came in a trade with the Sabres to acquire former No. 9 overall pick Matthew Savoie, bolstering their previously shallow prospect pool.
Let’s hope that brought a smile to the poor Oilers’ players. Because this video is surely sad to watch.
