Goalie Igor Shesterkin jumps in the pile and goes after Brady Tkachuk!
The Rangers goalie got into the scrum, which made Anton Forsberg consider doing the same. Full chaos in the video below:
Hell broke loose in the third period of Tuesday night’s game between the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators. After enforcer Matt Rempe scored his second career goal to increase the Blue Shirts’ lead to three, tempers flared as Sens captain Brady Tkachuk hit goalie Igor Shesterkin into his goal post. Things got rough around the net, with all players getting into a scrum while Shesterkin looked to be in pain.
However, in a matter of seconds, Shesterkin came to his feet and jumped into the pile to go after Tkachuk, socking him good as teammates from both sides kept swinging.
At one point, Senators netminder Anton Forsberg considered going across the line and dropping the glove and the blocker to thrown down with Shesterkin. However, officials broke the scrum and players were penalized on the play.
Check out videos below:
After the game, Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette had a funny response when asked about Shesterkin’s involvement in the scrum, saying “That’s hockey, man”, while Rempe revealed what was going through his mind when his goalie went after Tkachuk.
“A little nervous cause I don’t want anything to happen to him, but I love it. Just cause he’s a competitor. Just want to make sure I get in there and nothing happens. It was awesome, Igor’s the man.”
Shesterkin’s shutout streak is now at 144:03 as he hasn’t allowed a goal since forward Logan Cooley scored 57 seconds into the second period of the Rangers 5-3 win at Utah on Thursday.
The Blue Shirts’ goalie is blocking them all and throwing some good ones too!
