Gerard Gallant already linked to another NHL coaching job.
Gerard Gallant is already being linked to NHL coaching jobs despite parting ways with the Rangers just early today.
The New York Rangers and head coach Gerard Gallant are headed for splitsville with the Rangers organization officially announcing on Saturday what they have described as a mutual parting of ways. Although Gallant is now out of a job, it sounds like it may not be long before we see him back behind a bench in the National Hockey League once again.
Columbus Blue Jackets insider Aaron Portzline is already reporting that he expects Gallant will immediately be added to the list of potential coaching candidates for the vacancy behind the bench in Columbus. According to Portzline, Gallant showed considerable interest in the position before the Blue Jackets hired Brad Larsen to be their head coach in June of 2021, making him an easy candidate for an organization currently searching for a new head coach.
Gallant of course has a history with the Blue Jackets organization, having made his NHL coaching debut as an assistant behind head coaches Dave King and Doug MacLean in Columbus. Gallant would eventually assume the mantle of head coach himself behind the Blue Jackets bench, serving in that role over the span of 3 seasons.
That level of familiarity with both the city and the organization are likely also to be viewed as a positive in Gallant's favor should he in fact emerge as a candidate in Columbus.
