Gavrikov blocks shot with his face, blood all over the ice
Scary scene in Raleigh...
HockeyFeed
Hockey players are tough. And tonight, the toughest of them all is Columbus Blue Jackets’ Vladislav Gavrikov as a scary scene took place in Raleigh.
The poor guy ended up blocking the shot of Carolina Hurricanes’ Brett Pesce with his face in hopes to defend his net.
There was a notable pool of blood on the ice as Gavrikov appeared dazed, but the amazing thing is that the defenseman got up on his own and went down the tunnel to get some repairs. He had visible cuts on the side of his face.
This is a tough scene to watch, but it’s incredible to see Gavrikov stand up and leave the ice on his own power.
The ice crew needed time to clean up the messy ice before play resumed.
Both the Blue Jackets and the Hurricanes send him their best and we hope he will be okay. When the second period got underway, Gavrikov was still getting stitched up.
