Game stopped after horrifying injury in the AHL.

A horrifying injury in the American Hockey League results in a young man being carried out on a stretcher.

A scary incident in the American Hockey League has resulted in a very young player being carried off on a stretcher on Sunday.

A clash between the Cleveland Monsters and the Belleville Senators of the AHL turned ugly on Sunday when Belleville forward Hayden Hodgson delivered an ugly hit to Cleveland defenseman Ole Bjorgvik-Holm. The hit would send Bjorgvik-Holm, a 5th round pick (145th overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, crashing into the boards head first and after falling to the ice he would remain there for an uncomfortably long time.

Medical professionals and members of the training staff rushed out onto the ice to assist Bjorgvik-Holm but it was clear that not everything was alright when the stretcher was brought out onto the ice to immobilize him. Bjorgvik-Holm would be loaded onto the stretcher and was eventually carted off the ice, but there has been no update on his status following the scary incident.

You can see a video of Bjorgvik-Holm being carried out of the arena just below:

The situation was so serious that the game was actually stopped, a 10 minute stoppage, but play would resume and the Senators would eventually take the game by a score of 2-1.

Hayden Hodgson was awarded a 5 minute major on the play and he could potentially face supplemental discipline as a result of this incident.

I can once again only hope that Bjorgvik-Holm will make a full and speedy recovery from the injuries he sustained on Sunday.
