Gabriel Landeskog will play for the first time in almost 3 years tonight!

While insider Pierre LeBrun reported on TSN on Thursday night that there is “guarded optimism” within the Colorado Avalanche that captain Gabriel Landeskog will dress for the team in the postseason, things took a positive turn on Friday.

Landeskog will be making his Colorado Eagles debut this evening after being loaned to the AHL farm team earlier this week. This is his first professional game since game since Game 6 of the 2022 Stanley Cup Final, back on June 26, 2022.

Landeskog underwent knee surgery after helping the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup championship in 2022. The knee required a cartilage transplant in May 2023.

His recovery had ups and downs as he’s been skating on and off since January 2024 and joined practice with the team earlier this year.

In his most recent season, Landeskog posted 30 goals and 59 points in 51 games in 2021-22 and then added 11 goals and 22 points in 20 playoff games.

The captain was very emotional at the Avs’ home opener back in October when he couldn’t join the team that selected him second overall back in 2011. He has skated in 738 NHL games, scoring 248 goals with 571 points, all with the Avalanche, and after a stint with the Eagles, if everything goes accordingly, he could join his teammates for the playoffs.

But yes, I remember, guarded optimism.
