Front office feud between Rangers and Canadiens ahead of trade deadline!

This could be ugly…

Only weeks to go before the March 8 trade deadline and this is a time when teams should be calling one another, investigating which players could be available on the market.

However, it sounds like communications are scarce between two teams of the Eastern Conference, the Montreal Canadiens and New York Rangers…

In Montreal, forward Sean Monahan has garnered a lot of interested on the trade block and he could be exactly what New York needs at this time. Just recently, the Rangers were forced to announced that forward Filip Chytil will be unable to return and compete this season due to a setback in his recovery from what is believed to be a concussion. Therefore, Rangers general manager Chris Drury is reportedly looking for a top forward to add ahead of the deadline, and while Monahan could be the ideal fit, Arthur Staple of the Athletic reported that a feud between Drury and Canadiens Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Jeff Gorton is a huge roadblock in a potential transaction.

Staple believes Drury is upset with Gorton for hiring two former Rangers front office members (scout Nick Bobrov and fitness specialist Jim Ramsay). The insider goes further in saying that, according to sources, the Rangers and Habs will not even speak to each other in the coming weeks and will attempt to find solutions elsewhere even if this could be a perfect trade match.

“A person who talks to the Canadiens regularly said Montreal’s front office has believed for a while now that there’s no chance Drury even reaches out to Canadiens GM Kent Hughes” due at least in part to friction between Chris Drury and former Rangers GM Jeff Gorton.”

That sounds like schoolyard crap if you ask me. Be grown men and do what is best for your respective team.

Monahan could be on the move, and if the Rangers do not grown up and go after him, he is likely to traded to another contender. In 49 games with the struggling Habs this season, Monahan has recorded 13 goals and 22 assists.

And the Rangers could miss out on him all because of two immature men and a stupid feud…
