Four top contenders linked to Rutger McGroarty despite saga!
I can’t believe some teams would still go after him after what’s been reported…
Many reports have emerged that Winnipeg Jets’ top prospect Rutger McGroarty has requested a trade, and though the team has attempted to move him, the forward has caused the deal to fall apart due to unreasonable demands, “including a guarantee of substantial playing time and a role on the power-play.”
It has been said that there was a deal in place with the Montreal Canadiens that would have offered Filip Mesar, a 2025 first round pick and either Justin Barron or Jordan Harris to the Jets in return for McGroarty. However, general manager Kent Hughes was not going to deal with this drama.
McGroarty was the Jets’ top pick, 14th overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft and was also a Hobey Baker Award nominee. He has 91 points in 75 games with the University of Michigan in the past two seasons, and if it weren’t for his attitude issues, he would be a top target to go after.
Still, Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet believes the Habs are still interested in McGroarty, along with the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames.
I’m wondering, while being interested in the talents of McGroarty, the Canadiens, Wild, Bruin and Flames are also put off by the demands being made by the 20 year old and his camp, a 20 year old that has yet to appear in even a single NHL game.
I only see a move happening when McGroarty gets a better attitude, proving thathe is good enough to play in the NHL. If he is, then that’s where he’ll be. If not, he won’t come October.
