Former North Star asks for help in his battle against lung cancer.

A member of the hockey community is desperately reaching out for help.

Former Montreal Canadiens first round pick Tom Chorske broke the news on social media, announcing that fellow NHL Alumni Brad Maxwell is currently battling an aggressive lung cancer, and seeking help raising money for a treatment that is not covered by insurance.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Maxwell, with the following message explaining what is currently going on in his battle with a terrible disease:

It is with great sadness that we share Brad Maxwell is currently battling aggressive lung cancer that has unfortunately spread. As a former Minnesota North Star player and current President of the MN NHL Alumni, he has brought joy and excitement to the ice for many fans. It is difficult to share that chemo and radiation are no longer working, but we are hopeful that a brand new treatment he is currently undergoing will be successful in his fight against cancer.

It is important to note that this treatment is not fully covered by insurance, which can make it difficult to cover the large out-of-pocket expenses. We hope that the community can come together to support Brad during this difficult time and help alleviate some of the financial burden that comes with cancer treatments. Brad has given so much to the hockey community, and it is our turn to give back and show our support.

We wish Brad the best of luck in his fight against cancer and hope that he can overcome this obstacle with the love and support of his family and the hockey community.

Maxwell, a former first round pick in his own right, spent most of his career with the team that drafted him, the aforementioned North Stars. During his 612 NHL game career however he also played for the Quebec Nordiques, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers.
