Former NHLer Carlo Colaiacovo rips Flyers over “disgraceful” Keith Yandle move.
Colaiacovo unhappy with the Flyers decision.
The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Saturday that they were making the difficult decision to leave veteran defenseman Keith Yandle out of their lineup for their Saturday night matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While leaving veteran players on the sidelines is not an unusual sight in the National Hockey League, this particular decision has come under tremendous scrutiny due to the fact that it will end Yandle's record setting Ironman streak of 989 consecutive NHL games.
Yandle himself has handled the whole affair with nothing but class up until this point and considering what a monumental disappointment this must be for him I think he deserves a great deal of credit for doing so. That being said there are other voices that have expressed their displeasure at the cutthroat decision from the Flyers, and chief among them may be former NHL defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo. On Saturday Colaiacovo responded quickly to the announcement that Yandle's streak would come to an end, sharing some harsh words for the Flyers organization and even going so far as to hint at the possibility of some bad mojo coming their way.
"This is a disgraceful move by the flyers," wrote Colaiacovo on Twitter. "Show some respect. Karma is very powerful."
There have been no shortage of responses to the decision on social media that reflect the tone expressed by Colaiacovo here, however there have been plenty of others who have argued in the opposite direction as well. Many believe that Yandle has already earned a scratch or two over the past few seasons but has been allowed to maintain the Ironman streak in spite of that.
As for the Flyers you could argue that with only a few games left on the calendar and no hope of making the playoffs they should have allowed Yandle to coast to his 1000th game. On the other side of that coin though the Flyers are free to run their team as they see fit, and Yandle is not a legacy player with the franchise having signed a 1 year deal for his first and only season as a Flyer just this past July.
