Former National Hockey League enforcer Donald Brashear has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

According to a French language report from Radio Canada out of Quebec, Brashear appeared in court on Saturday via video conference to face charges of assault. Brashear would plead not guilty to the charges during his appearance on Saturday while the prosecutor requested that he not be granted bail in this case.

The alleged victim in this case is a woman, although no details about her identity or her potential connection to Brashear have been made public at this time.

Although the 53 year old has long since retired from play at the National Hockey League level, Brashear left a lasting impression on fans around the world during his 1025 game career in the National Hockey League. Brashear's fearless style of play and his willingness to take on all commers made him both a celebrated and reviled player depending on which team you were cheering for at the time.

Despite no longer playing in the NHL, Brashear has continued to play professional hockey, most recently playing for the Jonquiere Marquis of the LNAH during the 2023-24 regular season, and even dropped the gloves last year showing that he still continues to play without fear even at his relatively advanced age for a professional hockey player.

Unfortunately it seems that Brashear's penchant for violence has landed him in some trouble this time around, although it is always important to remember that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

No word yet on when Brashear's next court appearance will be.
