It only took 30 years and a Stanley Cup championship, but it looks like Gary Bettman's South Florida gamble has finally paid off.
In all seriousness, you have to feel good for the fans of this franchise who have endured a lot of lean years. There were entire swaths of seasons where there were hardly any fans in the building because the team was a laughing stock. But since the Panthers hired GM Bill Zito in 2020, the franchise has made a complete turnaround. Zito worked hard to acquire the likes of Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett and completely overhauled the team's identity.
Coming off their first career Stanley Cup championship, there's clearly a buzz for the Panthers in South Florida. Here's hoping the team can capitalize on things and secure a generation of fans that will sustain them in the coming decades.
