It was great timing for many reporters that a GM meeting was held in Chicago on Friday. Late on Thursday, rumblings emerged that 4 players, including Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart, could be in trouble, after the netminder made his Instagram account private and removed “Flyers” from his bio. He also went dark on his account, which prompted much chatter on his involvement in the ongoing 2018 World Juniors sex scandal investigation.

In addition to Hart, three other players on the 2018 Hockey Canada World Junior team have also gone dark on their Instagram accounts. Fans also pointed out that Brett Howden of the Vegas Golden Knights, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames, Jonah Gadjovich of the San Jose Sharks have also done the same.

When asked about it, Flyers GM Daniel Briere quickly put an halt to the rumours, telling Eric Engels that “there’s nothing to it, that he talked to Hart, who’s excited for this coming Flyers season, and that, as of now, he expects him to be at camp and ready to go.”

Back in May of 2022, news broke that Hockey Canada quietly settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by eight unnamed players, including several members of the country’s 2018 world junior team, following a gala in London, Ontario. Many players then made statements that they weren’t involved, but others did not comment.

The players were not identified in court documents.

Both the London Police and the NHL reacted to the ongoing reports and Instagram news earlier today, both stating that the investigation was still ongoing.
