Flyers and Senators take another shot at previous failed trade!

Will it work this time around?

The Ottawa Senators remain so cap-strapped that it’s preventing them to sign young, promising player Shane Pinto, the only free agent left unsigned in the NHL. According to Cap Friendly, the Senators have just $62,620 of cap space which has prompted them to look for a cap dump trade that caught the attention of the Philadelphia Flyers. Earlier reports hinted at the attempt to get some money off the Senators’ books, however, it was suggested that the Flyers were asking for forward Mathieu Joseph in the deal.

The trade never took place, but now David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period believes both teams could be taking another look at it if Ottawa would consider adding first-rounder and top prospect Tyler Boucher to the mix.

Joseph is under contract for three more years, including this one, and has a cap hit of $2.95 million. We get why the Flyers are once again interest in Joseph, who’s had a hot start to 2023-24 and could get more and more opportunities in Philadelphia.

The Senators probably also didn’t imagine the stalemate between the team and Pinto would drag this long, and so they might have to revisit some previous trade offers in order to make the necessary cap dump to sign the young talented free agent.

We’ll just have to wait and see if the Flyers are able to convince GM Pierre Dorion and the Sens that this is a worthy move and if Joseph is finally on his way out of Ottawa.

Stay tuned…
