Marc-Andre Fleury tears up during an emotional tribute from his former team on Sunday night.
There will no doubt be a few more of these on the way to what will eventually be Marc-Andre Fleury's final game in the National Hockey League, but there is also no doubt that this one was a little special.
On Sunday night, Fleury and his Minnesota Wild traveled to Las Vegas to take on the Vegas Golden Knights in what is expected to be Fleury's final game at T-Mobile Arena. Of course this will hold special meaning for Fleury who was a major part of the Golden Knights expansion franchise as they made their first steps into the NHL and it showed on his face tonight.
The Golden Knights gave Fleury an excellent salute during the game, thanking him for not only an excellent career in the NHL but also for playing a pivotal role in the history of the Golden Knights franchise. Fleury was stoic through it all but when the outpouring of love from the fans came after the announcement you could see that it began to overwhelm the beloved goaltender.
Fleury choked back tears and you could even see him ducking into his equipment a few times as he did his best to keep a strong face, with the weight of the moment clearly taking an emotional toll on the NHL star. The fans in the building continued to pour on the love for Fleury which of course only brought even more emotion onto his face.
It was a beautiful moment for both Fleury and the fans and unfortunately it is one of the last one's we are ever going to get with Fleury as a player with his career quickly winding down this season.
