On Wednesday, the Calgary Flames have placed forward Adam Ruzicka and defenseman Nick DeSimone on waivers.

The news comes in as team insider Eric Francis for Sportsnet reports that Jakob Pelletier is expected to make his season debut with the AHL's Wranglers this weekend, following shoulder surgery and months of rehab.

Pelletier suffered a serious shoulder injury during a Flames pre-season game against the Seattle Kraken. He has recently been cleared for contact.

Pelletier, who was going to make the Flames’ opening-night roster prior to his injury, could be making his way to Calgary for his season debut with the Flames, who therefore needed to start moving pieces around.

Desimone made his NHL debut last season with the Flames, appearing in just four games. This year, he has posted one goal and four assists over 23 games with the Flames.

As for Ruzicka, many believe he could be claimed off waivers by a rival club. He was selected by the Flames in the fourth-round of the 2017 NHL Draft and has recorded 14 goals with 26 assists over 114 career games in the NHL.

Both players are currently in the final year of their two-year contracts.

We will see on tomorrow's deadline if both players clear and are assigned back to the Wranglers, or if one or both is leaving for another NHL team.
