It was reported earlier on Wednesday that unrestricted free agent forward Mason Marchment won’t return to the Florida Panthers.
He might have found better, which is good news for the 27-year-old, who tragically lost his father Bryan Marchment last week. The former NHL defenseman was found dead in Montreal ahead of the NHL Draft, which he attended as a scout for San Jose Sharks. He was 53.
Good news was needed.
Marchment was getting interest as a free agent ahead of the opening at noon and finally Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman has reported that Marchment received a contract offer from the Dallas Stars: a four-year deal, approximately 4 x $4.5M AAV.
Marchment has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Panthers after being acquired in a trade with Toronto in 2020. He had a breakout season with Florida this year, scoring 18 goals with 47 points in 54 games.
This signature comes at a right time for him and his family who can focus on a new start after such a terrible tragedy.
