The rebuilding Vancouver Canucks brought aboard a key asset at last year's NHL Trade Deadline, acquiring offensive minded defenseman Filip Hronek from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
He would rebound from a poor outing in 2021-22, scoring a career high nine goals while also improving his plus/minus rating from a ghastly -29 to an improved +8 prior to the deal, which he never saw coming.
“He said they changed me,” Hronek explained to Czech website isport.blesk.cz. “You don’t even know that business is baking. I had absolutely no signs that anything was going on. It all happened very quickly.
“I was surprised, but these things belong to hockey. It happened, it was meant to be. I thought there was no point in thinking about it again.”
But just four games into his tenure with the Canucks, he was shut down for the remainder of the regular season and spent the offseason with a special focus on strengthening his shoulder in order to be ready for the start of next the upcoming year that begins in October.
