You hate to see stuff like this, especially when it involves such a young player, and you really have to wonder what was going through the mind of Nashville Predators star forward Filip Forsberg here.

On Sunday evening, Forsberg and the Predators welcomed the Montreal Canadiens to Bridgestone Arena and it would be during the game's opening period that Forsberg would engage in some very questionable behavior.

In the dying seconds of the first period, Forsberg would take a run at Montreal Canadiens star rookie Lane Hutson, delivering a late hit that appeared to catch Hutson up high. Not only was the puck long gone, with Hutson having cleared the puck from the crease several seconds before contract was made, but Forsberg also appeared to deliberately swing his shoulder and elbow in an upward motion in an effort to target Hutson's head.

Making matters worse, the hit from Forsberg appeared to go entirely unnoticed by the officials despite the fact that Hutson was left clutching at his face and head following the late hit from Forsberg.

Fans of the Montreal Canadiens are understandably upset as Hutson has quickly become one of the franchise's most valuable players, with many viewing him as a favorite to win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year.

While the officials on the ice may have missed the call, it remains to be seen if the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will step in to address what appeared to be a clear attempt to target a young player with an ugly hit.

Thankfully for the Canadiens Hutson appears to be fine, evening picking up an assist and placing himself just 2 assists away from the all-time record for a rookie defenseman.
