A beautiful moment in Montreal yesterday evening.

Trevor Connors

Yesterday evening was a special one in Montreal.

The Montreal Canadiens secured a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Eastern Conference's 2nd Wild Card team thanks to a win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.

The crowd atmosphere, as it is so often at the Bell Centre, was absolutely electric.

Call me an old softie, but I just feel like the Stanley Cup Playoffs are more exciting with hockey's most storied franchise in the mix.

Oh, and you can call me an old softie again because I got a little misty eyed after a special interaction between Brendan Gallagher and a fan in the post-game 'Jerseys Off Our Backs' ceremony.

Last month after Gallagher lost his mother to brain cancer the fan, a woman from Montreal named Lucie Lachance, reached out to Gallagher to offer up the 2022 Hockey Fights Cancer jersey that she purchased from the team three years ago. Gallagher accepted and offered to exchange the jersey for one of his game worn jerseys, sticks and other gifts. Last night the two finally linked up on ice and made the exchange.

Check out this beautiful moment:

An extremely touching gesture, both on behalf of Lachance and Gallagher. That's what hockey's all about.
