Fan angle shows Pyotr Kochetkov was knocked out cold by his own teammate.

A new angle shot from within the crowd on Saturday night appears to clearly show Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov out cold.

There was a scary situation on Saturday night involving goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov during a game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets, one that may have been even more serious than initially appeared during the live broadcast.

Kochetkov was shaken up during the overtime frame when he was struck in the head by fellow Hurricanes teammate Sean Walker when Walker went racing around the edge of the net to pounce on a loose puck. To be completely honest I feel most of the blame here should be on Kochetkov himself who was extended well outside of his net, giving Walker very little room to manoeuvre and resulting in a violent collision between Walker's body and Kochetkov's head.

Here is how it looked during the live broadcast last night:

Things didn't look all that bad with Kochetkov appearing to quickly regain his senses, although he would leave the game due to injury, but a new angle from a fan that witnessed the entire event unfold right in front of his eyes paints a much more serious picture.

From the new video angle we can see that Kochetkov appeared to have been knocked out cold as a result of the collision with Walker's body, and may have even been in what is known as the fencing response, a clear sign that an individual has been concussed. Even when a member of the Hurricanes staff came over to assist Kochetkov it appears as though they were initially unable to get him to respond, with the staff member given Kochetkov a gentle shake that resulted in no response from the Hurricanes goaltender.

Here is a look at the newly discovered video angle:

Although the video itself is only 16 seconds long, Kochetkov is completely motionless the entire time which does appear to be a cause for concern moving forward. The Hurricanes have already had issues with injuries in goal this season with netminder Frederik Andersen out long term, and if things are as bad for Kochetkov as they appear in this new video angle they could be without another goaltender for an extended period of time.
