This is pure class.

On Wednesday night, the Florida Panthers are facing the Carolina Hurricanes in a preseason contest. It’s the time of year to get new young blood on the roster and see what they can do, but the Panthers also saw tonight’s game as a chance to give young forward Skyler Brind’Amour the opportunity to play against his father, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour.
This is an extremely classy move by the Panthers to give the 24-year-old forward the chance to play in front of his dad.
Skyler was originally selected by Edmonton in the sixth round of the 2017 draft. He signed a two-year deal in Florida in the American Hockey League after earning a spot when he impressed during his time in Quinnipiac, where he saw his goal total rocket up from three to 14 as he helped the Bobcats win the 2023 national championship.
He’s ready to keep going in Florida and now has a chance to show off in front of his father tonight. He is among the oldest attendees of the Panthers’ development camp and wants a shot at cracking the main roster.
“You gotta go out there, play hockey and work your balls off,” Skyler had said in the past, quoting his dad.
And he’ll get to do that in front of him tonight.
