Expected No. 1 pick for 2026 Gavin McKenna gets suspended for vicious play!
So uncharacteristic of the star player in the WHL. Watch below:
Hockey phenom Gavin McKenna is usually known for his amazing offensive skills in the Western Hockey League, which he leads with 106 points in 51 games.
However on Wednesday, the Medicine Hat Tigers' star was getting attention for something else he did on the ice in a game against the Edmonton Oil Kings, and unfortunately, it has landed him a suspension.
It’s been confirmed that the projected No. 1 pick for the NHL’s 2026 Draft has been suspended three games for a vicious slash.
Watch what happened on the play down below:
McKenna – who received exceptional player status to play junior hockey at 15 – is in the same category as Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid and Chicago Blackhawks’ Connor Bedard: at his age, he’s seen as the next big NHL player. This is however not a move we expected from the young superstar.
His phenomenal streak is taking a pause now : he’s recorded at least one point in his last 35 games, which is the fourth longest the CHL has seen in the past 25 years. He will have to wait three contests to pick it back up.
