There have been lots of chatter on forward Evgeny Kuznetsov and his volatile relationship with the Washington Capitals. There were talks that the Russian forward wanted out and was hoping to get traded elsewhere as his agent previously mentioned how Kuznetsov was not having fun with the Capitals anymore, especially under then-coach Peter Laviolette.
There is now hope that Spencer Carbery, who’s taking over behind the bench, will rekindle the love and fun Kuznetsov has left for the game.

However during the Capitals’ camp on Thursday, it was announced that Kuznetsov is dealing with a slight issue, appearing to be favoring his leg and somewhat limping. It was clear that he wasn’t at 100 percent in the team’s skate tests, but he passed. He made questionable comments on his situation however after, joking that he was faking the injury. He then clarified that it’s a minor setback that shouldn’t be anything serious and that he won’t be taking any days off at this time.

“It’s all good, I’ll be fine. It’s a process a little bit,” Kuznetsov said. “I’m pretty sure that there’s a lot of small things that bug people in the summer. It’s something that I’ll probably fix in the future, in a couple of days probably.”

Sammi Silber recently reported that Kuznetsov was doing better and fans are hoping that his weird little joke is just a way to show that he’s ready to have fun and a great season in 2023-24.

“I’m actually in a good spot mentally,” Kuznetsov said. “I’m taking one day at a time. I’m here today and I’m going to give everything I have… I’m happy to be here and I’m happy to share the locker room with the teammates. There is a fresh start fo the whole team, and I’m focusing every day on my personal goals. I want to help the team, I want to make people happy, I want this team to succeed.”

That's good to hear. Better than his joke...
