The Vegas Golden Knights weren’t flustered by their goalie Laurent Broissoit’s injury or by Edmonton forward Evander Kane’s antics in Game 3’s 5-1 win over the Oilers to lead their playoff series 2-1. Brossoit left Monday’s first period with what appeared to be a serious injury to his left leg, but Adin Hill stopped all 25 shots he faced in relief.
This was all frustrating for Kane, who has since been seeping in hot water on social, especially because of the brutal run he took at Alex Pietrangelo at the end of the first period. At the buzzer of the first frame, Kane finished his check into Pietrangelo, cross-checking the Golden Knights’ defenseman in the neck area with this stick.
Kane was assessed a two-minute minor for cross-checking to give the Golden Knights a power play to start the second period.
It wasn’t the first time this series Kane has been stirring the pot for the Oilers. During Game 2, Kane received a double minor and a 10-minute misconduct for roughing after a scrum in which he landed multiple body blows to a defenseless Keegan Kolesar on the ice.
Not only is Kane putting a huge target on his back for the officials to quickly send him to the penalty box for the remainder of the series, he’s also gotten a lot of heat on social media, even from the Edmonton fanbase. And even insiders and reporters covering the second round matchup...
Considering Kane has been at the center of two reckless plays in two games during this series, there is a sense that something bigger than a penalty will come at this point.
The Oilers are already trailing in the matchup, they cannot let Kane ruin this for them. And with Kane spending time on social media, he has to be feeling the heat too…
