Evander Kane roasts Michael Bunting, calls out NHL officials.
Evander Kane was not happy.
Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane wasn't too happy after suffering a loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.
The Oilers looked like they had a commanding lead at one point in the contest with them taking a solid 3-1 lead over the Maple Leafs, but thanks in large part to the heroics of Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner that lead would completely collapse. That in and of itself would have been reason enough for Kane to be frustrated, but following the game the source of his frustration did not appear to be the loss itself.
Instead, following the loss Kane proceeded to take aim at Maple Leafs' forward Michael Bunting, effectively calling him a coward for refusing to drop the gloves, while also taking issue with the National Hockey League officials that allowed Bunting's antics to take place on the ice.
"It’s funny. You want to get these little ticky-tack calls. He likes to dive, embellish," said Kane of Bunting. "You want to get that out of the game, but they (officials) prevent guys from the consequences of those actions a lot of time they get in the way, sometimes the ref. I think fighting is a great deterrent of those kinds of plays. It just prevents guys from answering the bell and he’s a perfect example of that."
One particular notable example of the clashes between Kane and Bunting on Saturday night was a brawl between the two that spanned half the length of the ice.
The 'consequences' that Kane is referring to here is a clear indication that he would like to drop the gloves with Bunting, but if Bunting is doing such a good job of getting under his skin I suspect that giving him a measure of revenge is the last thing the Leafs forward wants to do.
As for Kane's criticism of officials, it didn't appear to cross any overt lines and I would be surprised to hear of any consequences for his comments last night.
