Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane may be hearing from the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety sooner rather than later.

On Friday night, Kane delivered a devastating hit to veteran National Hockey League defenseman Jonas Brodin as Kane and the Oilers took on Brodin and the Minnesota Wild. The hit from Kane was questionable at best and saw him drilling Brodin into the boards from behind during the opening moments of the game's third period.

Not only did Kane hit Brodin between the numbers, but the hit appeared to leave the experienced Wild defenseman quite injured. Brodin appeared to be favoring his leg as he headed to the Wild bench following the hit, and although he would try to remain on the bench, he was also seen hobbling back to the locker room shortly after.

Brodin would not return to the game and, speculating based purely off how things looked on the ice, he may be dealing with some type of leg and/or knee injury from this hit.

Here's a look at it from the wide angle:

Here it is a second time, close up and slowed down:

Kane was not penalized on the play, and in fact the Oilers would walk away with a power play after retaliation against Kane from the Wild's Ryan Hartman, and that combined with the injury to Brodin could prove to be factors that will cause the NHL's Department of Player Safety to take this hit under review.
