The Edmonton Oilers are fortunate to be able to boast the best 1-2 punch arguably in the National Hockey League with the superstar duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. This dynamic pairing is reminiscent of legendary duos from the past, such as Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne, Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov, and Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg.

However, Draisaitl's current contract isn't too far from coming to an end. He can become a free agent in the summer of 2025, and if he were to hit the market, he would become one of the most coveted players to hit the market in recent memory.

And according to journalist Mark Spector, he doesn't foresee any possibility of Draisaitl agreeing to a shorter term deal to remain with Edmonton the way that Auston Matthews did with the Maple Leafs:

"In his recent article, Mark Spector lists the Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, New York Islanders and New York Rangers as teams that superstar F Leon Draisaitl could consider if he were to leave the Edmonton Oilers when his current contract is up.

While there isn't any reason to believe Draisaitl is considering leaving Edmonton, Drai stated he was going to do «what's best for him» when his current contract is up, not giving any real answer when he was asked about re-signing.

Spector believes Drai's next contract will be the team he finishes out his career with, as he believes there is almost no chance he signs a short-term deal like Auston Matthews did with the Toronto Maple Leafs."
