Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was tossed from last night’s game against the Washington Capitals after reviving a five minute major for a cross check to the face of forward T.J. Oshie., who was able to return to action almost immediately and didn't suffer any lingering injury.
Any time a player receives a game misconduct, it automatically warrants a review from the NHL. And now, Larkin has learned his fate.
The NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Larkin has been fined $5K, the maximum allowed under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement:
The Red Wings are certainly fortunate that Larkin was able to avoid a suspension, given the fact that prior to being removed from last night's game, he was riding a seven game point streak and was a driving force behind Detroit's having won nine of their last 13 games.
The good news is that despite Larkin's absence, Detroit was able to take care of business against Washington, earning a 3-1 win and moving even closer to a Wild Card postseason berth.
