Don Cherry sends a message 5 years after being fired.

Don Cherry had a special message to share with Canadian fans on the 5 year anniversary of being fired from Hockey Night in Canada.

5 years after he was fired from his role on Hockey Night in Canada (HNIC), Canadian icon Don Cherry hasn't changed his opinion much, if at all.

The long time face of the highly popular Coach's Corner segment on HNIC recently recorded a message for Canadian hockey fans and Canadians in general where he once again lamented the fact that his fellow Canadians aren't showing enough support for the men and women who sacrificed their bodies and their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy as a nation today.

"I don't see any change," said Cherry with sadness in his voice. "You go downtown you don't see any poppies."

Cherry was of course unceremoniously fired from his position on Coach's Corner when he attempted to call on his fellow Canadians to buy a poppy in honor of Remembrance Day on this day 5 years ago. A mere 2 days after his rant about the poppy, Cherry would be fired on, of all things, Remembrance Day November the 11th of 2019.

When asked if he felt any regrets about his rant, Cherry stood firm and once again refused to apologize for his comments.

"I have no regrets about the poppy," answered Cherry when asked about whether or not he had any regrets.

He did lament the fact that he could have continued to be a part of the HNIC in broadcast, at least for a few more years.

"I have regrets when I see the guys on television and I think of the fun I could have had," said Cherry. "I could have gone on for another couple of years, but it was time to go."

Towards the end of the video Cherry once again made a plea to support the Remembrance Day efforts across the country, encouraging his fellow Canadians to support their veterans by buying a poppy... or several in his case.

"Wear one and give twenty bucks," said Cherry. "That's what I give all the time and I grab a handful."
