Dominik Hasek rips Ovechkin over “chicken sh*t” comments.

Hasek doesn't mince words.

Legendary National Hockey League goaltender Dominik Hasek does not appear to be at all concerned about political correctness, and he seems even less concerned about potentially rubbing some high profile hockey stars the wrong way.

On Saturday morning Hasek, considered by many to be among the greatest goaltenders in the history of the sport, spoke his mind about the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Among those comments was a special message delivered directly to Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin, one of the most prominent Russian athletes in the world today and an athlete that has often been photographed alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Hasek specifically called out Ovechkin over the comments he recently made about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and although Hasek made his career off stopping pucks this time around he was the one firing the shots. Hasek ripped Ovechkin apart over his comments, clearly indicating that he felt the Capitals captain had failed to condemn the actions of Vladimir Putin,

"What!? Not only an alibist, a chicken shit, but also a liar," said Hasek via his Twitter. "Every adult in Europe knows well, that Putin is a mad killer and that Russia is waging an offensive war against the free country and its people."

Ovechkin spoke during a Friday news conference and many felt that he tried to play both sides, refusing to condemn the actions of his home country of Russia in spite of that government's decision to invade the Ukraine.

"I would say it's a hard situation," said Ovechkin on Friday. "I have lots of friends in Russia and Ukraine. And, it's hard to see another war. I hope it's soon going to be over and there's going to be peace in the whole world."

Ovechkin was also asked about what many perceive as his friendship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and once again he refused to condemn Putin in spite of the actions taken against the Ukrainian people.

"Well, he's my president," Ovechkin replied simply. "But, how I said, I'm not in politics. I'm an athlete. How I said, hope everything's going to be done soon. It's a hard situation right now for both sides. Everything, like how I said, everything I hope is going to be end, and I'm not in control of situation."

Once again it is clear that Hasek did not feel Ovechkin did enough when he had the chance to send a message, and unbound by the constraints of being under contract in the NHL, Hasek has let him know exactly how he feels. To have such a legend of the sport speak so poorly of you can't possibly feel good, regardless of how big of a star you may be in your own right.
